Books

If you enjoy reading and have some spare time, any and all of these books are definitely worthwhile and are packed with enlightening information. And just so you know, we're adding new books to this list all the time. As a matter of fact, if you have a book that you'd like to recommend, please let Susan know here.

In my view, all the books below contain meaningful content and are well written with the layperson in mind. Check any of them out and I think you'll agree.

Body of Truth by Harriet Brown - A book about our cultural obsession with weight, our fetishization of thinness, and our demonization of fat.

The Blood Sugar Solution by Mark Hyman, MD - Dr. Mark Hyman shows how diabetes is completely preventable and even reversible for most people simply by changing diet and lifestyle

Eat Fat, Get Thin by Mark Hyman, MD - Dr. Mark Hyman explains how a growing body of research is revealing the immense health and weight-loss benefits of a high, healthy fat diet rich in eggs, nuts, avocados, coconut oils, and more.

Eat the Yolks by Liz Wolfe, NTP - This book hones in on bringing the truth about fat, cholesterol, protein, and carbs to light.

The End of Overeating by David A. Kessler, MD - Dr. Kessler shows us how our brain chemistry has been hijacked by the foods we most love to eat: those that contain stimulating combinations of fat, sugar, and salt.

Health at Every Size by Linda Bacon, PhD- This extremely important book is not a diet book. Read it and you’ll be convinced the best way to win the war against fat is to give up the fight.

The Hunger Fix by Pam Peeke, MD, MPH, FACP – Dr. Peeke addresses food addiction at its root cause rather than simply providing a diet that leaves people hungry. It shows how the foods we eat can directly alter our brain chemical messengers and why so many find it challenging to say no to sugary, fatty foods.

Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole, MS, RD and Elyse Resch, MS, RD, FADA, CEDRD – This has become the go-to book for creating a healthy relationship with food, eating, and our body.

Nourishing Wisdom by Marc David – NW encourages us to observe what happens when we think about our food and when we eat it, and how both our thoughts and the food affect our body and emotions. Combining the spiritual and emotional aspects of our lives allows us to truly nourish ourselves.

The Primal Connection by Mark Sisson – Our hectic & stressful lifestyles have disconnected us from our very DNA. Mark covers what our genes are hardwired to expect as well as how we can re-define our core values, calibrate our own daily pace, and make time for play/adventure/quiet/reflection/friends/family, & optimal rest and rejuvenation.

The Slow Down Diet by Marc David – We are creatures of body, mind, and spirit and when we attend to these levels simultaneously we can shed excess pounds, increase energy, and enhance digestion to feel rejuvenated and inspired. Eat for pleasure, energy, and weight loss.
