Made-with-Love Hot Chocolate

This hot chocolate is easy to prepare and the REAL thing for pleasure and health! It's fantastic for keeping you warm during the cold winter months. I also encourage you to share this liquid treat with a loved one

Made-With-Love Hot Chocolate features fresh, homemade coconut milk, (full of good fat), and cacao, (high in anti-oxidants). You won't have to feel guilty about this hot chocolate treat. The best part is how easily this recipe can be adopted for different flavor profiles. Add peppermint extract, (1/4 tsp), or pumpkin spice, (1/2 tsp), vanilla extract or powder, (1/2 tsp), cinnamon, (1/4 tsp), a pinch of cayenne and a pinch of sea salt, etc. If you add in additional flavors, do so at the same time you add the chocolate.

Of course you can buy coconut milk pre-made, but I promise you the taste difference between homemade and store bought is so worth the little bit of extra effort. Moreover, homemade is far more cost effective, coconut milk in cans is frequently lined with BPA, and refrigerated containers have added sweeteners and preservatives. Thumbs down!

Embodied, Empowered, Beautiful: Finding Your Authenticity

Never mind what you've heard day-in-and-day-out from well-intentioned, or not, friends, family, media, etc. Things like who you’re supposed to be, how you’re supposed to be, what you’re supposed to be doing with your life, how you’re supposed to look, what clothing size you’re supposed to fit into.

Forget all that. At least for the moment. Re-focus. Center yourself. Then complete the following sentences:

• I feel beautiful when…

•I feel strong when…

•I feel bold when…

•I feel brave when…

•I feel sexy when…

•I feel peaceful when…

•I feel happy when…

•I feel like me when…

Take your time. Ponder. Reflect. And, take back your power irrespective of what others say.

Happy Thanksgiving Day

What a wonderful day to eat in a great way! Roasted turkey, Brussel sprouts, a whole baked yam, (no need to go with the candied version!), gluten-free (almond and/or coconut flour) pumpkin pie all washed down with a glass of organic red wine and filtered water! I’m absolutely giving thanks for the bounty and beauty of this meal in the presence of others. It’s helpful to be socially connected to people for support - especially during holidays. Enjoy!

Simply Roasted Artichokes

I roast so many of the foods I eat since it’s easy and the results are always amazing. And, these are the kinds of recipes I try to offer – easy to make, delicious to eat, and fantastically healthy for your body and soul!

Artichokes, which are now in high season, are another real food item that turn into a grand slam of flavor when coming out of your oven! Of course, artichokes can be prepared in a variety of ways – steamed, boiled, grilled – but for today, let's talk roasted/baked.

Besides tasting great and being fun to eat, artichokes are super loaded with health. While most of us love artichoke hearts, the leaves contain the most nutrients. Consequently, I encourage you to eat whole artichokes.

Did you know artichokes are one of the most liver detoxing foods? They are! Artichokes are loaded with antioxidants which help to fight off disease, stress, and even cancer. They are also the perfect healthy, low-glycemic food which is great for stabilizing blood sugar. Moreover, artichokes are high in iron and other precious minerals which all work together to optimize your health.  In short, the artichoke is a nutritional and flavorful powerhouse winner!

World Diabetes Day

If you have type 2 diabetes, please don’t despair! There is so much one can do to reverse diabetic numbers simply by changing your eating style and moving your body. There are resources all around.

If you’re on FaceBook for example, try joining the private group, Reversing Diabetes. Over 40,000 people belong to this group and you can interact by giving and receiving answers to questions and other information.

Also,
Yuri Elkaim offers a wonderful isometric workout which gets the blood flowing and heart pumping all while staying in one position. Besides being enormously helpful in lowering diabetic numbers, the beauty of isometric training is its reduced risk of injury since one simply holds one pose at a time, then releases. I love it!

Smile And Say, "No-Cheese": Why Cheese Is So Darn Addictive And Can Cause Mood Distress

Smile And Say, "No-Cheese": Why Cheese Is So Darn Addictive And Can Cause Mood Distress

I, for one, absolutely love cheese, and there are many of us cheese lovers out there! So, what exactly is it that has us going back for more and more of this sometimes, "stinky as feet", food?

Let’s Start at the Beginning

While information about lactose, (a form of sugar in dairy), and the many digestive problems it can cause is fairly well known, there is still not much mention regarding casein, (the dairy protein).

First and foremost, human beings are not intended to consume the nursing milk of calves, lambs, or kids. Calves especially grow into 1,200lb cows and their mother’s milk is what helps them get so large and heavy. Imagine what drinking and eating cow dairy with its lactose, casein and other elements can do to your body size?

Moreover, unless you eat cheese made from the milk of healthy free-range, pasture-raised animals, you will be ingesting anti-biotics, growth hormone, (yikes!), stress hormones, and puss! Puss results because the animals are being overly-milked by machines. The harshness and excessive usage of these machines cause the animals' teats to become sore and infected. Consequently, puss frequently mixes in with the milk we eat and drink.

Back to why we can't seem to stop eating cheese: Addiction Potential

National Nut Day

In light of our snacking theme issue this month, it's a perfect time to celebrate nuts! Have a handful of nuts on a regular basis to ensure a healthy dose of anti-oxidants.

Nuts of all kinds can help you to live longer - walnuts, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, pine nuts, almonds, pecans and macadamia nuts. Just make sure your nuts aren't the roasted/salted, mass-produced kind or their health value nose dives.
